Children in the ancient times were dressed as their parents from a very early age. They were expected to marry and begin working at a young age as well. This cut child hood short but, that did not mean that the innocence and joy of a child was not portrayed through art.
Children in ancient Greece played many games and had many toys in youth, however they were expected to begin life as an adult at an early age. This sculpture portrays a young boy who is still a child and has not yet entered the adult world.

In ancient Egypt the sizes of figures in art reflected their social status. As you can tell the young girl beneath her fathers legs is very small showing that she is still young and has not yet reached adult hood. Further more her fathers social standing is much greater than hers.

This shows two boys boxing. While on one hand it may have been an activity that children participated in, it was probably also a manly thing to do, showing that these two young boys will soon become men.
